SURPRISE FARM RETREAT CENTER

THE LABYRINTH
Intentional Creating

Vision & Construction
One of the mantras for Surprise Farm's Purpose is to find oneself in Place.
For years we’ve been eying a natural space surrounded by boulders, imagining a place for— a labyrinth.
The paths will be marked with tourmaline-laced granite rocks gathered from the pegmatite dike that formed the Surprise gem mine.
This dedicated space abuts an oak preserve. Surrounding geological and historical sites further locate us in time and place...

Meaning & Ritual
From the ancient Greeks and Egyptians to the Hopi Indians and Medieval Europeans, societies have been constructing labyrinths for millennia as both powerful tools and rich symbols of wholeness.
Walking a labyrinth is a metaphor for life's journey — a journey to our own center and back again out into the world.
You may get there through meditation or prayer, through introspection or dialogue, through reverence or playfulness, just as people around the world have done for thousands of years.
Come experience your own journey, using whatever tool or symbol is meaningful to you.
You’re invited to participate, from envisioning to its construction to enactment.
